Embassy and consulate legalisation

If your document is going to a country that has not joined the Hague Convention, an apostille is not enough. The file needs MEA attestation followed by legalisation at that country's embassy or consulate in India, each with its own forms, fees and submission windows.

We handle embassy legalisation for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, China, Vietnam, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Thailand and others. Requirements shift without notice — an embassy may start demanding an Arabic translation stamped before submission, or move to appointment-only intake — so we confirm the current rule before your document is sent rather than after it is rejected.

For the Gulf in particular, many employers and universities also require attestation by the destination country's own foreign ministry after the document arrives. We tell you at the quote stage whether that step applies to you, so the timeline you plan around is the real one.

  • MEA attestation followed by the correct embassy or consulate counter
  • Arabic and Chinese translations stamped in the format the mission expects
  • Live check on current fees, forms and appointment rules before submission
  • Guidance on post-arrival attestation by the destination foreign ministry

Questions we are asked most

What is the difference between an apostille and embassy attestation?

An apostille is a single certificate issued by the Ministry of External Affairs that makes an Indian document valid in any country that has joined the Hague Convention. For countries outside it, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China and Vietnam, the MEA stamp is only the halfway point and the document must then be legalised at that country's embassy or consulate in India.

Can I get an apostille without state attestation first?

No. The MEA only apostilles a document that already carries an authentication from the issuing state: the education or HRD department for academic records, the home department or SDM for personal records, and a chamber of commerce for commercial documents. Sending a document straight to the MEA is the most common reason a file is returned.

Do you need my original documents?

For translation, a clear scan is enough. For attestation, apostille and embassy legalisation, the original has to be physically submitted, so it travels to us by courier and back to you the same way, insured and tracked.

How quickly can you work?

Translations are usually ready in two to four working days. State attestation adds roughly one to two weeks depending on the department, MEA apostille three to seven working days, and embassy legalisation anything from two days to several weeks depending on the mission. We give you a date with the quote.
